Rotate & Flip Image Online
Fix sideways photos, mirror an image or straighten a tilted scan. Turn the picture, check the preview, and save one file or many at once. Nothing is uploaded.
Corrects a small tilt, for example a crooked photo of a document.
🔒 Runs in your browser. Your files and text are not uploaded.
How to use the Rotate & Flip Image
- Drop one or more pictures on the box. A preview of the first picture appears.
- Use Rotate left or Rotate right to turn by 90°, and Flip horizontal or Flip vertical to mirror the picture.
- To fix a slightly crooked photo, move the “Straighten” slider (−45° to +45°). Keep “Zoom in to hide empty corners” ticked to avoid white wedges.
- Choose the format and quality, then press “Save rotated images”. The same settings apply to every picture in the list.
Why photos appear sideways
Phones and cameras record the way the device was held in a small setting called the EXIF orientation flag, instead of rotating the pixels. Most apps read the flag and show the picture upright, but some, such as certain upload forms, older software and PDF tools, ignore it, which is why a photo can look fine on your phone and sideways on a website.
This tool draws the picture the way your browser displays it, then writes the rotated result as real pixels, so the saved copy is upright everywhere and needs no flag. If you only want to remove location and camera data without touching the rotation, use the EXIF remover instead.
Rotate, flip and straighten
| Action | Result | When to use |
|---|---|---|
| Rotate right or left | Turns the picture by 90° | A photo shot in portrait that appears sideways, or a scan inserted the wrong way |
| Flip horizontal | Mirrors left and right | Selfies that were mirrored, or a layout where the subject must face the other way. Text will read backwards. |
| Flip vertical | Mirrors top and bottom | Upside-down scans and reflections |
| Straighten (−45° to 45°) | Rotates by a small angle and enlarges to fill the frame | A horizon that is not level, or a document photographed at a slight angle |
Straightening a crooked photo or scan
Straightening needs the picture to be turned by a small angle, which leaves empty triangles in the corners. The “Zoom in to hide empty corners” option enlarges the picture just enough for the rotated image to cover the whole frame; untick it if you would rather keep the full picture and a background colour in the corners. Find the right angle by looking at a line that should be horizontal, such as a horizon, a table edge or the top of a page, and adjust in half-degree steps until it sits level against the edge of the preview.
For documents, straighten first and then crop the edges with the crop tool, so no bytes are wasted on the background.
Quality when you save
Rotating by a multiple of 90° does not lose information in theory, but a JPEG has to be encoded again when it is saved. At the default quality of 92 the difference is invisible; raise it to 95–100 for a printing master or choose PNG for a lossless copy. Straightening by a small angle always resamples the pixels, so save the result in the highest quality you need and avoid repeating the operation on the same file.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my photo sideways after uploading?
The camera stored the orientation as a flag, and the website ignored it. Rotate the picture here and save it: the result has the pixels in the right order, so it looks the same everywhere.
Can I rotate many pictures at once?
Yes. Whatever you set in the preview is applied to every picture in the list when you save.
Does rotating reduce quality?
Slightly, because JPEG has to be saved again. At quality 92 or higher the loss is not visible; choose PNG for none.
How do I straighten a photo by a small angle?
Use the Straighten slider and compare a line that should be level with the preview’s edge. Tick the zoom option to hide the corners.
Is my picture uploaded?
No. Rotation and saving happen inside your browser.
