How to use the PNG to JPG Converter

  1. Drop one or more PNG files on the box, or click it to choose them.
  2. Set the Quality slider. 92 is a good balance; use 80–85 for the web and 95 or more for text screenshots.
  3. If your PNG has transparent areas, choose the colour that fills them under “Fill transparency with”. White is the default.
  4. Download the JPG files individually or as a ZIP.

Why convert PNG to JPG

The main reason is size. PNG stores every pixel without loss, which makes photographic images very large, often five to ten times larger than a JPG that looks the same. Converting a PNG photo or full-screen screenshot to JPG commonly saves 70–90% of the file size, which matters for email attachments, uploads and storage. The second reason is compatibility: many application forms, printers and older programs accept only JPG.

What happens to transparency

JPG cannot store transparency, so any transparent or semi-transparent pixels must be given a colour. This tool blends them with the colour in “Fill transparency with”, white by default. White suits documents, product pictures and anything that will end up on a light page. Pick black or another colour when the picture was designed for a dark background; otherwise soft shadows and anti-aliased edges can show a pale fringe. If you need to keep transparency, stay with PNG or convert to WebP, which supports it.

Choosing the quality

ContentQualityWhy
Photos for the web80–85Large savings with little visible change
Photos for printing or archiving92–95Keeps fine detail and smooth gradients
Screenshots with text90–95Text edges show artefacts at lower values
Thumbnails70–80Small size matters more than fine detail

Do not convert PNG logos, diagrams and line art to JPG if you can avoid it: JPG adds noise around sharp edges, and flat colours may show faint blocks. For those, keep PNG or switch to lossless WebP.

Convert, then fit a size limit

If the next step is an upload with a limit such as 100 KB, convert and shrink in one go with Compress Image to 100 KB instead, because PNG files are accepted there and written out as JPG at the best quality that fits. Pixel dimensions are not changed by this converter, so use the resize tool when a form states a size in pixels.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert PNG to JPG without losing quality?

JPG is always lossy, but at quality 92–95 the difference is hardly visible. Keep the original PNG if you may need a perfect copy later.

What happens to a transparent background?

It is filled with the colour you choose, white by default, because JPG cannot be transparent.

Why does my JPG look worse around text?

JPG compresses blocks of pixels, which blurs sharp edges. Raise the quality to 95 or more for screenshots with text, or keep PNG.

Can I convert a batch of PNG files?

Yes, drop all of them in and save them as a ZIP.

Is it free and private?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no upload: the conversion happens in your browser.
