How to use the PNG to PDF
- Drop your PNG files on the box, or click to choose them. Order the pages with the ↑ and ↓ buttons.
- Choose “Same as each image” for the page size if every page should match its picture, or A4 or US Letter for printing.
- Raise the JPEG quality slider to 95 or more if your PNGs contain fine text or thin lines.
- Press “Create PDF” and download the file.
What happens to a PNG inside the PDF
PDF’s native picture filter for photographs is JPEG, so this tool draws every PNG on a white page background and stores it as a JPEG at the quality you choose. That makes the PDF dramatically smaller than a lossless version would be, and it means that transparent areas become white, a sensible default for documents. At the default quality of 85 the result looks identical to the screenshot on a screen; for text-heavy screenshots with fine anti-aliasing, raise the slider to 95 or more.
Screenshots and documentation
PNG is the usual format for screenshots, and a PDF is the usual way to share a series of them, for example a step-by-step guide, a bug report, a record of an online purchase or a set of slides. Number the files in the order you want them, or use the arrows. Use “Same as each image” so that pages of different dimensions are not stretched or padded, and set a margin of None. For printing, A4 or Letter with a 10 mm margin gives a more conventional page.
Keeping the PDF small
| Goal | Setting |
|---|---|
| Smallest file for reading on screen | Small resolution (up to 1000 px) and JPEG quality 70–80 |
| Balanced for email | Medium resolution (up to 1600 px) and quality 85 |
| Sharp text and print quality | High resolution (up to 2400 px) and quality 90–95 |
| A strict upload limit | Type the size under “Limit PDF size (KB)” and let the tool shrink the images step by step |
Before you convert
Crop away anything that should not be in the PDF, such as the browser frame or personal details, with the crop tool. If a screenshot is a very tall web page, split it, because a very tall page shrinks to unreadable text on an A4 sheet. Look at the thumbnails before you create the file, and remember that the text in a screenshot becomes a picture inside the PDF and cannot be selected or searched. See the general Image to PDF page for all page and size options.
Frequently asked questions
Will transparent PNG areas stay transparent in the PDF?
No. They are drawn on white, because the PDF pictures are stored as JPEG. This is normally what you want for a document.
Why is my PDF much smaller than my PNG files?
PNGs are lossless and large; inside the PDF they are stored as JPEG at the quality you set.
Can I mix PNG and JPG files?
Yes. You can mix formats freely; each picture becomes a page.
Can I select the text in the PDF?
No. The pages are pictures. Use an OCR program if you need searchable text.
Do you upload my screenshots?
No. The PDF is built in your browser.
